Stop Hate for Profit appreciates the support of non-profit organizations who stood in solidarity with us

Stop Hate for Profit appreciates the support of non-profit organizations who stood in solidarity with us in the summer of 2020 and during the Stop Hate for Profit Week of Action in September 2020.

The following letter was signed by over 100 non-profit, labor, faith-based, and advocacy organizations:

To Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg:

Despite Facebook’s huge profits, the company has repeatedly failed to stop the spread of hate and disinformation across all its products.

This is why you are facing an advertising revolt, led by the Stop Hate for Profit coalition — a powerful collaboration of non-profit organizations that are protesting your failure to protect Facebook users. Already more than 1,000 advertisers — including Ford, Honda, HP, Unilever, Verizon and more — have agreed to stop advertising on your platforms until you do more to Stop Hate for Profit.

The Stop Hate for Profit coalition is calling on all of your advertisers to hit pause on ad spending and requesting you meet specific demands, such as preventing lies in political ads, closing down groups that are associated with violence, and allowing victims of severe harassment to immediately reach a live Facebook representative for help.

The undersigned organizations are calling on you to adopt these changes immediately. As non-profits we share their concerns about growing levels of hate and disinformation on your platforms and call on Facebook to commit to real and systemic changes.

Thank you,

Stop Hate for Profit
